anyone else do turkey on Monday?

Postby Ginger Snap on Sun Oct 07, 2007 6:03 pm

So, I am reading all these posts where people are talking about cooking the turkey, and Happy Thanksgiving and the rest, and I am thinking... are we the only family that celebrates/has their big turkey dinner on the Monday? I am trying to remember back to childhood, but as far as I can remember we always had the big dinner on the Monday... certainly in recent history we do.
Not sure why I asked... just wondering if everyone assumes today is Thanksgiving, or do other people think it could also be either day?
Ummmmm... something clever.

Technically Monday is the holiday I think, but for many families, Sunday dinners are more traditional. Definitely this way in our family.

We normally do it Sunday, and have rest and leftovers Monday.
This is the first year we're having it Monday.

I can't remember from my childhood but since I have been married (18 years) we have done one Sunday and another one Monday almost every year with each side of the family. Just one if somebody is away on holidays though....

Growing up we always did it on Monday and dh and I did this too for several years. And then a few years ago we started doing it on the Sunday so we could more fully relax and enjoy the leftovers on the Monday.

Exactly Berenda! This was the way growing up and still the way for us today! Since Monday is a day off it has always remaind as "sacred" time, so cook all weekend, eat a feast and relax and not have to cook on the day off!

For us, makes sense, but a LOT of people wait until Monday. My ex-inlaws always did Monday, so we always got two big dinners anyways! Now we have a weekend of family and Monday is a day to do what we WANT to do, and if it includes family, great, if not, cool too.

Happy Thanksgiving no matter the day!

It is 8:30 Monday morning, the turkey is ready to go into the oven, 2 pumpkin pies are made, carrots and potatoes are peeled and sitting in the pot. My SIL works at 2 p.m. today so the meal is at noon!

This is the first time in many moons that we are eating Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving and because of our recent move instead of cooking for 24-30 people I am only cooking for nine! Talk about confusion, I couldn't even think how many potatoes to peel for that small amount of people.

I am sitting down while our ds is vacuuming the house, this is the only moment I will get to relax so I am enjoying a coffee with some Starbucks Coffee Liquer in it!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!!!

That was our plan, but since one DS has thrown up already and the other has a fever and sore throat, the turkey and pie's are now in the freezer.

With DH working shifts, we do it on whichever day works better for his rotation that year.

Growing up, we had it on the Monday.

My DH is working this weekend, so we're having ours on Tuesday. We use to always have it on the Sunday though. I suppose it doesn't matter as long as you have your family there to celebrate with you.

We were SUPPOSED to have Thanksgiving dinner tonite at my brother in lw and sister in laws house, but just last night they backed out saying "our house is a mess, we can't have anyone over"!!!!!! They were supposed to have the WHOLE family over so now being last minute, we don't even get a Thanksgiving dinner!!! And having a little one, I am not going to cook for 10 people last mintue and have them over in our little dinky apartment! I am sooooo peeved right now!! Who backs out of a holiday dinner with their whole family last minute!! Anyway I just needed to vent, hope everyone else has/had a great Thanksgiving dinner!!
