Ahhhh... it's down!

Postby Ginger Snap on Wed Dec 27, 2006 10:23 pm

We took down our Christmas tree tonight! I love Christmas, and love everything that goes along with it, but I have to admit by the end of December I am ready to get back to "normal." We usually wait until Jan 1 to take it down, but I was so ready to purge we took it down today. We would have done it yesterday, but were bagged from the busy weekend. The house feels so big... I feel like our living room gained an extra 300 sq. ft. I did a big clean, scrubbed the floors, dusted everything, got rid of a bunch of ornaments that I don't really like (nothing sentimental) and got together a big bag for the Win store. Ahhhh... that feels good!

It is the same way I feel about summer... I love it, look forward to it all year. But come the end of August, I am ready for the lazy days to be over, and the crisp days of autumn to begin. In December, I love all the Christmas activities, but after eating my way through an entire month, I am ready to go back to a more spartan lifestyle. Anyone else ready for boring old January?

:-D
Ummmmm... something clever.

I took all the knicky knacky stuff down on boxing day but not the tree cause I was always told that it was bad luck to take the tree down before the New Year. Anyone else hear that?

I've always heard the opposite, that you take the tree down before the new year as to not mix the old year with the new. Like the good with the bad.

Great that means I can take it down as it is driving me nuts. I have two dogs and the dust dinos that are floating around the bottom of the tree drive me wacko, i cannot keep up!!! Now I can say it is not bad luck but good luck. Cannot afford bad luck right now!!??

Do you want to come and take mine down for me too Dinger Snap? :D I'm so not into taking it down, but I'm done with having it up. My Halloween stuff was up for at least a month after Halloween so things aren't looking good.

I can't wait to get mine down tomorrow, I might even start tonight if I get energetic. I could always start by taking down the stuff in the daycare and then work on the rest of the house tomorrow, hmmmm. I'm ready for it all to be over with, I'm off work until the 11th and it just seems like too long! I think by about the 4th I'll be itching for things to get back to normal LOL

When I was going to university and working full time one year I couldn't bare the thought of taking the tree down so left it up until February....I was so tired  We decorated it with heart shaped paper chains, red lights and pink heart decorations. I joked that I was going to leave it up until April for the Easter Bunny to find decked out with festive spring decorations. People thought I was nuts but the kids loved it! Some of the neighbour kids would come and hang out with our tree because they thought it was cool.

This year I wanted to take it down on Boxing Day and we'd only put it up the week before Christmas. My dh loves it up. I'm stingy with the Christmas light bill and want the extra clutter out of the living room. It's already over run with toys and now an igloo! :D

OK... are you one of my old roommates? I know you are not, because of your name, but we did this exact thing! We had a small tree, and were too lazy to take it down. Also, we had a bare little apartment and so the tree added so much! So, in Feb we put little paper hearts on it with all the names of our friends and visitors. In April, we put little eggs at the base, and decorated the tree with little bunnies. Then, we all went home for the summer and the tree finally came down.

Maybe that's while I am so uber eager these days to take the tree down right away. :D I walked downstairs this morning and felt so glorious with all the extra space. Ahhhhh!

LP, I don't think you would want me to take your stuff down. I am a serious "purger" with my own stuff, so you might not end up with anything for next year!

Please, please come purge my stuff. My dd wants to keep EVERYTHING!

That's too funny that someone else has got more bang for their buck with their tree as well. I used to tell my family who visited that Christmas trees were meant as seasonal decorations but not defined by one specific holiday. My dad would shake his head and sigh. I suggested he could come help out and then I'd get the tree down. He thought I had a good sense of humour
