Questions for Nanaimo/Parksville Mom's

Postby Anonymous Posts on Fri Feb 09, 2007 10:45 am

I know we have a few up-island posters on here so here goes...

I'm moving to most likely Nanoose in the next year and this is such a big move for the family. I have two kids aged 3 and 9 months. I am from Parksville, but have been in Victoria for 7 years. A lot has changed! So I have some questions about the area...

What kind of activities are there for kids?
Are the sports programs good?
How are the schools nowadays?
Are there playgroups and opportunities to meet other families?
How are the preschools? Which are the best ones?

Thanks in advance. This is such a stressful time, but I think I'd feel much better about this decision if I had more information from other Mom's out there.

We live in Parksville, and have been here for 2.5 years now.... lots for kids to do. Maybe not as much as Victoria... but Nanaimo is close enough if you want to do something that Pville doesn't offer. the RDN Rec guide, offers everything Nanaimo does for the most part. As for schools ~ I think there are many great choices.... including French emersion if that is for you. I'm very happy with the preschool that my kids have been in ~ Sunrise Preschool. It's a non-profit preschool run out of a classroom at Parksville Elm. and the ECE is GREAT!!!!! The kids get use to the 'big kids', and get to know the school prior to them going into kindergarten. As for playgroups.... there are some... my kids (6&4) are out of that now... but Nanoose use to have one of the best ~ I travelled up from Nanaimo for it when the kids were younger!!! The mother goose program and WOW (words on wheels) programs are HUGE up here, and very easy to join into. The SOS also run a large number of kids programs....

If you have any other questions... just email me ~ and I'll do my best to answer.....
