help!!

Postby chaza on Thu Mar 08, 2007 12:24 pm

I am in my 37th week of pregnancy #2 and I have been suffering with bronchitus. I am over the worst, but I was hoping to get some ideas for coughing relief. I can't take any form of meds....I have propped my pillows, taken hot showers, drank water.....any good home remedies out there???? Any advice will help, I feel like either my belly or my head is going to explode!!! Thanks....

Oh sheet! I didn't have that wretched cough when I was preg but I did get spring alleriges for the first time in my life! LOL! And again, nothing you can take! Grrrr!
Someone once directed me here: http://www.safemotherhood.org/ to see what was ok to take. Did your doctor not suggest anything? That's unfair! LOL!

I hope you get better soon, you've done all the things that I'd've tried too... maybe some reeeeeeeally good chicken soup? ;)

what about going to the body shop.. grabbin some Eucalyptus? put a couple drops in your bath.. Steam your bathroom up and relax in the bath?? Maybe with the steam and vapour will help ease the coughing?? Having someone bang on your back... I have chronic asthma and its a form of treatment.. I did it when pregnant too.. Just have them (not beat you) but pound up and down your lung area.. This helps to loosin the phlem in your lungs.. Maybe end your coughing fits easier.?? Or if you have an electric massager that can bang your lungs from the back? I have that now as hubby got tired of doing the treatments maually... Good luck.. Hope you feel better soon :)

My husband and his family swear by molasses and pepper. You mix pepper with molasses and take it.

Make sure you drink warm not cold drinks. Tea is good.

For a cough syrup you can mix lemon, honey and ginger (fresh grated best but powder ok if that's all you have).

I too have this awfull cough. I went and bought a VICKS warm mist humidifier (spelling?) that you can put the Vicks liquid menthol stuff in a section of it. It really helps to breath again and has helped loosen my chest, since before I started using it I had the really tight cough.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

My doc told me that there are safe cough meds to take while pregnant -they have to prescribe them - go see your doc!

help

Postby chaza on Thu Mar 08, 2007 4:06 pm

Thanks guys! I just went and saw my family doc and she reccommended the baging of the back as well. She was going to give me a steroid inhaler, but ir takes 3-5 days to work? So I am going to try the hot lemon and honey thing, hot showers.... She didn't mention any cough medicines that I could use, she said all are not the best just to be on the safe side. At least she said if I weren't pregnant, she would have me on antibiotics so I don't feel that I am being a wimp!! Everyone looks at you and says its only a cold, but man, I would like to see them 8 months pregnant dealing with this!!!!

just be careful when you cough not to strain your muscles and give yourself a hernia. that happened to my mom, and wow...the pain!
