allowance - what age and how much?

Hi! Just wondering at what age you started giving your kids an allowance, if at all, and how much is fair? I'm not sure when to start, and what is a reasonable amount? Or do you pay your kids to do chores, or both?

My daughter is five, she gets $5 per week we started her on an allowance, to teach her about money, when she was three. At the end of the month she puts half in her bank account and half she can spend on a treat.
