Anyone ever owned a Jeep Cherokee?

Postby mom22 on Fri Apr 20, 2007 6:29 pm

We're thinking of buying a used Cherokee for weekends and camping..not for everyday driving but as a second car for longer trips.

Anyone have any advice to give on Jeep Cherokees?

My Dad has an older Jeep Grand Cheroke and regrets buying it. He seems to be in the shop all the time getting one thing or another fixed or replaced on it. And everything that needs to get replaced has been very expensive. My Dad is one to totally baby his vehicles and take REALLY good care of them so it says a lot for him to be having so many troubles with his.

i loved mine, once we got it going perfect... it took a little to get it there... the gas mileage leaves something to be desired, but if you're not driving it every day...
you're so pretty

I had a cherokee too.

Piece of junk.

I actually ended up making the dealership buy it back from me.
I was livid.

Would never go Jeep anything again.

We had a 1992 Jeep Cherokee for 6 years and loved it. We never had any problems with it except with the power windows.

It was hard on gas but great for campig especially the logging roads around Lake Cowichan.

The only reason we sold it was to by a minivan for my 2 kids, dog and daycare.

Hi, our JEEP Cherokee is about 9 years old. It has been across North America and back, loaded to the hilt. I drove the Coquihalla in a serious snowstorm and had to watch my speed as I was doing 120. It felt like dry pavement. (Note get a selectrac model, not command trac) It has had minor issues in all that time. I had to get shocks, an ignition coil, brake rotors etc. Nothing that you would not expect after tons of driving. This is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Early Cherokees had issues, but they were resolved. The 4.0 litre six is one of the most dependable motors ever developed, with power and torque for nearly every situation. This is a true Jeep 4 by 4, and it needs more attention than a mini van, but it is more capable and has more class. These vehicles were around for nearly 20 years for a reason. Look it up on wikipedia. The cherokee was an engineering achievement. To Nay sayers I say its just as well that you keep buying your minivans.

Thanks for the comments. We bought one today! Gorgeous Navy blue 4 door 1998 cherokee sport. We pick it up tomorrow. I hope we don't regret it.. I think it will suit our needs perfectly and it's so sporty looking!

Oh, I'm glad that all worked out last night a the PF!! If it's any consolation I'm suffering a raging hangover too from our dinner out. Aren't we too old for this? Well, B definitely is now!! :-)
