lady is trying to sell (our?) stuff

Postby missymeliss on Sat Apr 28, 2007 5:53 am

OK so i moved into bc houseing in feb. The place i got had five planters on a bench and three other ones on the ground as well as this picnic table with an umbrella. When i moved in the manager said it is all ours. We thought that was pretty nice. I went out one night and returned aand the five planters were gone. I talked to neighbours and they said the lady that lived here before me took them. Apparently she is going to neighbours and trying to sell this stuff. Seen her yesterday briefly before i got on the elevator. She now lives upstairs and wants to talk about the rest of her stuff. Can she really take it all? Ive planted flowers already and dont think after 3 months of living there that she can take this stuff.

Personally, if it was hers then I don't think it would be worth fighting over to keep it, even though she did leave it there for so long.
Perhaps, as she is still living in the building, it would be best to talk to the manager about it and see what they have to say...maybe they will have a word with her.

I would say that if she didn't take it with her when she moved then it's yours. There must be a rule in the Landlord/Tenant Act about how long a landlord is expected to hold onto things people leave behind. 3 months is far too long. Especially since she lives in the same building and could have come and asked for it right away.

I'm feeling a little mean, but, maybe you can hand her a bill for storage fees. At least let her know she is out of line.
