High Tea
My friends are going to come over from Toronto and they want to try the High Tea. Since I've never been interested to try one, I'm asking you, guys.
Where should they go to have it but not as expensive as Empress Hotel ? What will be served besides the tea ? Thanks.

My sister and I just took my mum to the Empress yesterday ! It was the first time any of us had been and it was really good but also pricey. After tax and tip the bill came to $185 for the 3 of us. We did each get a little canister of tea to bring home though which is nice.
We started off with strawberries and whipped cream - then the 3 tiers of tea items and the tea. There were 5 different sandwiches , scones with cream & jam, cake, profiterole, strawberry tart, cookie and a fancy chocolate. Everyone had one of each item. We were really full and brought the last few items home for my kids.
A cheaper place to have high tea is the White Heather on Oak Bay Avenue. Their's is around $25 per person for the full tea. There are also luncheon items or smaller versions of tea available.
I think the tea at Butchart's is also nice - though I haven't been.
There is also tea at an old character house near the Bay Street bridge in summer on the lawn.
A few other places have tea too, I have been and didn't think it was good.

I took my mom for high tea at the White Heather Tea Room in Oak Bay last month and it was wonderful - I've had high tea at the Empress and this was way better, WAAAAAAY cheaper, and felt more authentic...The food was so good - wonderful tea - good service...It's super popular, though, so make sure you make reservations if you decide to go..
We had the Big Muckle Tea and it was around $40 total...I'm really looking forward to going back - we are going to try and make it a semi regular thing for the two of us

I was just sent that link to my friend after reading kdsmom's and sapphire's posts before reading your post. Great minds think alike.
Thanks everyone. Now I'm very tempted to go to The White Heather Tea Room with them.
