what schools would be next to close?

If SD 61 was going to close more schools which ones would they be? How do they choose? I want to make sure that I don't enroll my child in a school that is going to be closed down soon. Does anyone know specifically about Torquay, Frank Hobbs, and Hillcrest?

Since Cloverdale has been given another life, I think they will still want to close one in the "Reynolds" family. The likely candidates would be either Lake Hill or Braefoot or then again, they might just leave things alone for a while...

There's been at least 3 closures in the east Saanich area (Fairburn, Richmond and Uplands) already so I wouldn't think the schools you mentioned would be targets in the near future - but I also didn't think they would actually close Lampson so you never know.

During the consultation process John Young warned us (Cloverdale parents) to not send our children to Braefoot...and to quote him..."THEY ARE NEXT"

Mr. Young sounds very good when you hear his political speech, but if you actually attend the school board meeting more than 2 times you will soon figure out that he has a "recorded" speech in his mind.He always says the same thing...it is easy to figure out the age of Elementary school students...blah,blah,blah...the other Trustees have heard it sooooo many times that they can put him back on track should he forget what he is saying.God forbid anyone interrupting him while he is giving the said speech. He will go back to square one.

When he came to our school for a special non media event...He stated that before he votes on any matter he thinks to himself ...will this ultimately be the most beneficial for the children??...WOW!! this sounds amazing and I can understand how people would vote for him...but scratch the surface and think about how much money he spent to fight against the school fees. His heart is in the right place, but unfortunately the outcome doesn't reflect that..

is it pretty much a numbers game when they look at which schools to close?

Between the three, if i had to choose i would think Frank Hobbs. Hillcrest and Torquay at the top two elementary public schools in the Victoria Area on the Fraser Insitute school rankings. Both of them seem to be busting at the seams as well, so i would think Frank Hobbs. But i second the above poster, I don't think they will be close any of the three - they seem to be targetting the Reynolds catchment.

IMO Lake Hill would be a much better "victim" than Braefoot. The school is smaller, older and there's nothing that really makes it special...

Looking at all the schools within the Reynold's family Lake Hill should have been the one to close to begin with, but being a border school the criteria was developed accordingly. It wasn't done fair and square when selecting which schools to close. The way they decide on which schools to close need to be reviewed. Two schools were chosen and then the selection criteria was developed in order to justify it.The information presented to the Trustees was highly selective and biased. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure it out.The system is flawed!!
