Drive-thrus
It makes me insane to see how many new drive thrus there are, and they always have line-ups.
If you don't want it bad enough to shut off your exhaust spewing vehicle and go in and get it, maybe you don't really need it.

Totally
....Gas powered leaf blowers (get a rake) and drive thrus are on my hit list.A 'No' uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a 'Yes' merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble. - Mahatma Gandhi

I have a young child and know several people with multiple children who use the drive-thru's.
I can understand single people or people without kids, but sometimes when you are in a rush, the drive thru is easier than unloading the car just to get food to leave.

Anon poster here:
Im not saying life is supposed to be easy, but when Im late for something (which I try not to do) and dont have time to get out I will use the drive thru. I have, when there is a line up, turned my car off while in the line to save gas and keep my emissions down.
I guess Im having trouble understanding why you attacked Drive-thru's when obviously your issue is with the disposable world we live in.
Maybe you could do a post on that instead of attacking people who use the drive thru because they need to.

You NEED to use the drive thru when you are running late for something?
I'm guessing the something that you are running late for is to pick up lunch for someone and take it to them.
If it is for a coffee for yourself could it wait so you aren't then running late?

I don't think I am attacking anyone. I also think part of my rant is about people thinking they "need" to use the drive thru. Pack a lunch. Make a coffee at home and take it with you. Or, shut your car off, scoop up the kids, and go in. I have two kids. I know this when I leave the house. If I am running late, I recognize that the line up inside is MUCH shorter than the drive-thru bottle neck.
I guess you are right though Anon, I am getting really disgusted with the way our society is becoming so disposable and "convenient". We can't imagine how difficult it would be if we had to wash out a dishcloth, rinse out a mop, wash a load of cloth diapers, take the time to steam some veggies for our baby. Much more convenient to use a paper towel, use the swiffer, put on another Pampers and open a jar of Gerbers.
Again, I am not attacking anyone. We are fed such a line of crap all the time about how modern and easy it is to use these products. I just think we might consider that maybe we don't really "need" all of these things we think we do.
*edited to add that when I say "You" I am not referring to anyone in particular, but rather a collective 'you'.

I guess I didn't get a copy of the "Rules of Use For a Drive-Thru" and when it is acceptable and not acceptable to use them, which scenarios are OK, which are borderline and which are just not allowed.
Silly me. I thought they were for everyone to use whenever they felt like it without having to justify the use to those who think them unnecessary.

Not quite sure what you mean by this. My rant is that they exist at all. We think we "need" them. We don't.

I don't quite get it either.
When did driving thru a drive thru to get a cup of coffee that we will drink in our vehicles while driving or even to pick up a quick lunch on the go become a need?

I don't really get why it would bother you so much whether there are drive-thrus or whether there are fast food places, coffee shops - have you never used these? If so good work!
I agree though we have become such a lazy society.
Personally I'll use it if I am alone with my kids, two under 3 - b/c there is no way I can carry a baby, hold onto a toddler and carry a coffee.

I admit I use them when I've got 4 kids with me. No way am I unloading them all to drag in and have them running around disrupting everyone else. When I'm by myself or just have my own girls I will go in as it's usually quicker.

FM, you seem quite upset with the fact there are line ups, however by the sound of your text, you dont use drive thrus, so why be so frustrated with the line ups? its a small battle, and is it really worth the aggravation it appears to be causing in your life.
Life is short, enjoy it.
