train up island

Postby mommy2fourgirls on Tue Jul 10, 2007 8:02 am

Has anyone taken the train to Nanaimo/Courtney/anywhere inbetween?

How long is it, can I make it a day trip? Is it expensive?

Thanks

I have taken my two dd's on the train to Nanaimo. It is cheaper if you book I think 14 days in advance and as well I believe for every adult a child between 2 & 11 is free. I think I paid $38 for the three of us but that was only one way and it was only a couple days before we left so didn't get the early booking discount.

We arrived around 10:30 and I believe it heads through on its way back to Victoria around 3. I know other have taken it to Qualicum wandered around there for a few hours then caught the train back so yes it is possible.

It's a great trip!
We used to take it all the time between Courteney and Vic. I can't remember how long it is.
Plus kids ride free I believe.

Last Aug longweekend I took the kids to Chermainus for the day. We had a great time. Took the train up in the AM then returned around 3PM. Yes, children riding with an adult are free under 12. I believe my ticket was about $15 each way. When we got to Chermainus we did one of the tours, went to the beach/playground and walked around for the day. Had a great time.
Just when I was getting used to yesterday...along came today!
