Can't find any info. We walked up to the scene and were told 20 people were on the roof when it collapsed. It happened around noon.

Peatt Rd., "The Blackberry" building.

The "top" floor of the new Blackberry building that is under construction apparently gave way and collapsed. This was the information I received at the scene.

Ambulance, fire, BC Hydro were all on site. BC Hydro cut the power lines to the construction site. I also heard the site cut into a line, but I am not sure if that is true.

I hope everyone made it out without any serious injuries.

I have never heard of anything like this before in Victoria.

My husband called to tell me about it happening - he works for the developers that own that one - luckily on another building as that one isnt ready for painting.
Another friend heard on the radio- Apparently there are 4 injured but not seriously... they were pouring cement on an upper floor when it collapsed. There was no one down on the first floor at the time.

Wow, I am so glad to hear that there were minimal injuries.

And Im also glad your hubby wasnt there. That must have been a relief.

Do they know why the building colapsed?

Terrible that it collapsed while they were working on it and hope everyone is okay but imagine what would have happened if it collapsed once people were living there.

Building collapse

Postby jobraka on Thu Aug 16, 2007 2:18 pm

My husband was a firefighter on scene at the collapse and just got home a bit ago from the call. There were six people injured and all were fairly minor injuries. Only one worker was sent to the hospital. They were very lucky as the floor was just being poured and there was quite a bit of exposed rebar. Nothing was said as to why it happened.
