Help! Impetigo on the Buttocks

Postby miss_kl on Wed Sep 12, 2007 9:18 am

My 3yr daughter has Impetigo on the butt. We have been prescribed cream and anitbotics. My problem is at night she still sleeps with a pullup and day time she has underwear however they end up sticking and rubbing the sores. I tried gauze to act as a wall between the sores and because the sores weep the gauze was stuck. She now dreeds mornings as I have to separate what ever is stuck to her her butt and put on cream. I am now the mean mommy who keeps hurting her. Has anyone else dealt with this and do you have suggestions on what I can use that won't stick to the sores but will keep them covered and act as a wall between what ever she is wearing?

Poor little one.

I know I've seen tons of different types of coverings at the drug store. Maybe the pharmasist would know of something that won't stick.

Have you asked your doctor if you could put vaseline or something on top of it after you have applied the perscription? I had to use cortizone on my poor guy, and the doctor told me to just let it get in for about 20 minutes, then I could put it on top. Just a suggestion. The hospital might have a non stick gauze you could use. Pharmasaves or Rexalls pharmacists are very helpfull.

Oh, one other suggestion. Put her bottom in a warm bath to let the gauze soak off. It might be a bit time consuming but at least it won't hurt to come off.

Tell her that now would be a good time to not pee at night, that way the bum wont get sore.
(might be your ticket out of diappers)

in the day time wear long dresses or skirts, no underware if possible. if not, when at home, let it breath.

You can get Non-Stick bandages, but the better thing would be nothing.
