victoria fire??

Postby janarch on Mon Aug 01, 2005 10:36 pm

anyone live downtown? Know what the fire is about?

IS everyone ok?

We started smelling this burnt smell around 9:30 and by 10:30 pm (monday night) our whole street was all foggy. I thought the park was on fire near us and walked around trying to figure out what was wrong. Neighbor finally called fire dept and found out fire is downtown. We are central Victoria.

I have no idea! But I would love to hear more! I hope everyone is okay! Possibly some left over party from the long weekend?

I got off work at 10:30 in James Bay and saw numerous ambulances and a few police cars in the Johnson/Gov't st block area. No idea what was happening though.

Apparently it was an empty building on Fisguard, and the rumour is that it was set deliberately. I have no idea how far it spread though?

I don't know, but the ambulances turn up often to empty buildings because of the possibility of homeless people sleeping in them, my sil was down there when it started but it went on for quite a while so it may have spread much further and injured people or smoke damage etc

According to the news, there were 'squatters' inside at the time of the fire and one person may have started a fire inside for heat or cooking purposes...

The ambulances a required to be there on standby in case the firefighters get hurt. They are also there in case of people inside of the building.
I havn't done a fire stanby in a while but we use to do a firefighter rehydration program. Monitor the vital signs of the firemen and tempratures.
The fire department did a usual great job of containing the fire to the one building.
