Boys hair

Postby guest on Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:23 am

Do you have a problem with little boys having long hair?

Ds has the most beautiful corn silk coloured hair. It's straight-ish, but get's really curly at the ends and he likes to keep it long (he has a very narrow face and big ears so it lookes better with it longer).

What gets me is the number of adults who tease him and call him a girl for it. He doesn't really care...he's very confident/secure and laughs it off, but I'm kinda shocked that adults would tease a kid like that...I mean we all say "kids can be cruel"...well look where they're getting it from.

Anyway...just curious what people think of little boys with long hair?

Here's a pic to show what I mean. I don't think it looks girlish at all!

I think long or short hair on boys is the same as long or short hair on girls. It is all individual. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as it is no ones business how we each wear our hair. Now messy hair that is something different, hehe.. If he likes it long then no problem.

Postby aydans mom on Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:33 am

Well my two year old son had long hair and I dont mind him having his hair long as we have not had his hair cut and he still has his baby hair.
Which he looks like a aussie surfer lol..
but I still get adults saying she and I have to say no he is a boy'.
I dress my boy in boys clothes and still get she...
I think my son looks cute but soon we will have to get his hair cut....

Typical boy to me.
I hear ya LP. My son has sure endured more than his fair share of adult rudeness.
He asked me what was up with people giving a crap about his hair. Especially his dad. He asked what they cared about more...him or his hair. And how would they like it if I said they dress funny mom?

Good for him! I mean...if J wanted to dye his hair pink (it would kill me cuz his hair is so beautiful but) that would be his choice to make. Hmm...OK, maybe not...he goes to Cloverdale and isn't allowed.

I would assume that it was older people making these comments?
He looks like a happy boy, and the girls will be all over his golden locks one day!

I think he looks cute and nothing wrong at all with it. I regret cutting my sons hair, he had the most beautiful curls and didn't look like a girl at all . So as long as he is happy and doesn't fall to the pressure from others than I say its up to him when he gets his hair cut.

I hear you...I keep my son's hair around the same length, and people always comment, ask when I'm giong to cut it, etc. well, I'm not going to cut it, we like his hair as it is! If I knew how to post I would post a pic, but I don't know how!

His teacher too?
Have you asked any of these adults why they think it's ok to outwardly criticize a child?
Stuff like this just makes me nuts

I love long hair on boys!

Have you seen a recent pic of Celine Dion's son?
He is beautiful and has the longest, gorgeous hair!

What a cutie! Totally in style for boys too. My youngest (17 mos) hair is like that too without the curls as hubby doesnt have the heart to have it cut. He usually gets mistaken for a girl eventhough hes obviously a boy with his clothes and all!
I cant believe grownups would make those comments! They must be insecure about themselves to do that. Good for him being confident and able to laugh it off!

He does such a great job of it all on his own. :D He told his Grandad he must be jealous cuz he's bald.  Other people he just laughs and says "you can call me ____ (insert girls name here)" or "I don't care if I look like a girl".
