Jon and Kate + 8 Kids TV Show

Postby Guest on Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:29 pm

Has anyone else seen this show on TLC? My Sister told me about it and they had a marathon tonight so I watched the first 4 episodes and OMG

They have twin 4 year olds when the show starts + 6, yes 6, 1 year old babies (3 girls and 3 boys).

The amazing thing is they do it by themselves. She leaves Dad home for 14 hours on Saturday when she works as a nurse and he just handles them all.

It is quite amazing and an eye opener for me who has kids the same age and cannot imagine having 2 of my DD + 6 of my DS

She is amazing and so hilarious. I am sure she is OCD otherwise how could she handle it all without going insane.

Cheers,
Lara

I absolutely love this show!

I cannot imagin doing what they do day in and day out. I don't think I could personally handle it.

But my DD was born on the sextuplet's B-Day! hehehe

I love this show, but I'm so glad I have only one baby.

Yes, this is definitely the show to watch on a night when you think you can't handle your children. Let's just say, it puts things in perspective.

Love the show - I watch it whenever I can. The older girls are now 7 and the 'babies' just turned 4!!!! I have ONE 7 year old and ONE almost 4 year old and there is NO WAY I could handle 6 of my youngest!!!

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

Its on every Monday on TLC at 6pm and 9pm.

I love how she can make things look so easy, and she makes me want to clean my house   not sure why but she does. Maybe its her neat freakness that makes me want to do that. I will be so sad when they stop doing this show. hopefully by then there will be lots of repeats.

Yup, I'm a fan too!
I recorded it Monday and still haven't watched it - It was all about Jon and Kate before the children. :D

Well I am probably the only person alive who isn't a fan. I don't enjoy the so called witty banter between Jon and Kate. I don't enjoy Kate's ego. That's the big one for me. She thinks she is the greatest woman alive, and needs to get over it.
But, it does make me happy I only have one.

Happy watching ladies!

you cannot be serious viki!?!?! I don't think she has a big ego at all, she is just the one home all the time so likes things (understands how to deal with things) when they are done her way. I think she is a hoot, although I wouldn't want to be Jon when they are out shopping, oi! But I see a little (ok a lot) of myself in her, and definately the sarcasm with hubby is the same as them. You have to remember that they are on camera all the time and some of it is because they are on camera. (Lord knows when they scratch and pick!) I WISH I was as clean as she is and don't know how she does it either with that many children and I do daycare! It's busy! (oh for crying out loud, I have one sleeping and the others are right beside me eating their lunch!! )
I think they are fantabulous!

Their bantering is my favourite part! It makes them more real. They're so honest with each other.

I cannot stand how super happy the Duggar family is. I don't think I could smile so much with 18 kids. JMO

I think it was explained in one of the episodes this season how the show is made and really the only input that Jon and Kate have is telling the producers what they are doing that day/week (so they can plan their shooting around any family activites) and answering the questions for the weekly Q&A sessions at the end of the show. They don't have any input into how it is edited.
When I first started watching this--last season I think--I found Jon and Kate (ok, Kate especially) to be really bicker-y (I know that's not a word :P ) and it really annoyed me to be honest, but I think it's been toned down somewhat this season. I think the producers chose to put in more of the arguments because it made for more interesting TV....if they put in most of their daily conversations it probably wouldn't be nearly as interesting and pretty mundane, most likely. And, as I said, I think they've toned it down somewhat this season (the producers, not Jon and Kate) due to some of the negative feedback they've received about Kate seeming so b*tchy all the time. I think they actually seem pretty real and that's refreshing for a reality show. ;-)

Does she seem a bit 'type-A' to me? Yes--and it must be hard to let go of that sense of control when you have 8 kids to keep in line and I applaud her for even trying to bring some sense of order to her families life. Our family seems way more chaotic and we only have one to manage right now! As for her cleanliness, I don't doubt that she is uber-organized but I don't think for a minute that she cleans that whole house herself. I know they've mentioned on the show that they have people come in to do their laundry (or at least fold it and put it away). And, while they devoted one episode to Kate trying to hire a housekeeper and then firing the ones she hired, I wouldn't be surprised if they found one in the end....it probably wasn't considered TV-worthy enough to show that part of the of the process though. ;-)

For the most part the show amazes me.

BUT

There are many episodes where Kate is being really MEAN to Jon. She's admitted as much on TV. She also says that's just the way she is. Jon has tried to tell her that it hurts him but she doesn't listen. Even on some of the more recent ones.

I do totally get how stressful it must be and I would probably want to do most of it myself as well. She does have help with friends but it is mostly herself. So I don't blame her for being uber organized.

Dh hates watching it because of how she talks to her husband. I watch it sometimes but I am annoyed when she starts talking like that.

My DH feels the same way :(
I do feel she can be mean to Jon but thats there relationship. If you look in the earlier clips its been the same. Not saying thats right but he fell in love with that and I am sure it can't bug him too much because he is still there and she is still doing it. JMO

Yes, this was my reaction as well. DH thought it was hilarious that their banter is similar to ours. I think that is my favourite part.

Everytime I made a comment about or to DS, DH kept saying "imagine if we had 6 of him" He was hugging my legs today as I was trying to work in the kitchen - with 6 of them how could you move
