need suggestions for good kids movies-for 7 year old boys

Postby sherilee on Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:33 pm

For my sons 7th birthday this year were going to be having a movie party, but we haven't decided on a video yet.

I'm looking for suggestions of movies that would be suitable for 7 year old boys.

Thanks!

we just watched Nims Island, Bionicle, Back to the Future (more swearing than I remember, probably not a good party movie), kung fu panda, alvin and the chipmunks

I'll keep thinking

Is kung fu panda out on video?
I'm not sure if my son saw that one, maybe that would be a good one?

Yes, Kung foo Panda is out on video. Not sure which ones your son has already seen but what about the movie Cars, Ratatoulille, one of the Shrek movies or Scooby Doo. My neices really liked See Spot run, I am sure you can rent it I got it free when I bought my dvd player so I never needed to look for it. It is not a cartoon one but super funny. Check the rating, not sure what it is for but my neice was 8.

My 6 yr old loooooved Nim's island. Also Ratatouille - any of the ice-age movies and garfield. Herbie was also good. Racing stripes, bee movie, air bud or air buddies.

I also have a 7 year old boy and we have recently watched Nim's Island and the Spiderwick Chronicles and my kids loved them! Last weekend we rented The Goonies and while we all enjoyed it very much, I was a bit turned off by how much swearing there is (it had been 20 years since I'd watched it and had forgotten about that)...

Another great movie is Underdog - we own that one, too, and the kids really enjoy it..

OP here. My problem is we've watched almost all the movies...but he doesn't mind watching them again.

I haven't seen spiderwick or whatever it's called, is that one suitable? I want a movie that has nothing bad in it, or too scary, just to make sure everyone is okay with it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

OP again. :)

What about the spy kids movies? There's a newer third one isn't there? IS it any good? We haven't seen it yet. I liked the first one, second one okay, my son enjoyed it.

Maybe I'll rent a few and have them decide.

Why did I forget about the Spy Kids movies? We have watched all 3 repeatedly (have the 3rd one here right now, as a matter of fact - Blockbuster rental - Sly Stallone is so funny - George Clooney is in it a bit, too) They are FABULOUS - so well done, very G rated, exciting, action packed, funny...They are movies that we enjoy as well...

I would NOT recommend spiderwick! I read the reviews and let my 6 and 9 dd's watch it (without my previewing it) and they were scared! It had several scenes where toad-creatures try to capture the children and one child is scratched up by them. A couple monsters chasing the kids scenes and the endding is pretty scary. I was devistated that I had trusted the reviews I read and hadn't pre-viewed it -huge mummy guilt over it. The box and reviews made it seem very magical but we found it pretty dark. I am sooo glad I didn't let the 3 year old stay up to see it!

My son (mind you is just 5) just watched Mr.Magoriums Emporium or something along those lines and he really enjoyed it. I didn't watch it with him so not sure on the swearing content but I don't think there was any as he didn't tell me about any 'bad' words they said :D

He also loves Racing Stripes and the Bee movie is a hit here too
