Wedding ring won't come off, HELP PLEASE!!!
Two days ago I starting feeling a lot of pain under where my diamond sits, I went to move it a bit to look underneath for any cuts & my diamond came right out. The clasps holding it broke away & bent into my skin. I was able to re-bend them up, but now I need to get them (3 rings fused together) fixed.
The problem is I'm very prego's....usually I leave my wedding rings on during my pregnancies & have never experienced any problems until now...I'm majorly swelling & need to some how get them off my puffy finger.
Does anyone know how I can do this without getting them cut off?
Also, does anyone know of a good wedding ring repair shop? This is the 3rd time in 2 years I've had to get it repaired for the same reason (bottom clasp holding diamond ends up breaking).
Thanks!

Have you tried liquid soap? Sometimes that will help, really work it in. If not try putting an elastic around your finger or tie a string really tight until it indents and keep doing that as you move up your finger. I had to do that once when my sister stuck a ring on my finger that didn't fit. Good luck.

you could try making your hands really cold ( a soak in ice water perhaps) lots of soap... vegtable oil ect holding your hands up may also help as it will lessen the blood flow..
as for the repairs hubby and I go to macdonalds jewlers behind the mcdonalds on douglas I think its board street..both guys are named Ian they're very awesome and nice they designed my engagment ring and our wedding bands but they do alot of repair work as well... good luck

Windex... That's what a jeweller will spritz on your hands to help get it off

This was always one of my great fears - can't stand the thought of rings being stuck on my fingers. I have no great ideas other than cooling your hands to shrink the swelling and then trying oil or lotion. Sounds like there is a good chance you'll need them cut off - I don't know who does that though.

Thanks for the ideas ladies.
So far I've tried the Windex, oil & soap & so far no luck. I'll try the elastic & cooling tomorrow morning when they seem a bit less swelled.

If you go to a jeweller tomorrow they have a special tool to cut them off.
You should not be wearing them if they are that tight as you could lose a finger if you injured it and couldn't get them off. They would probably cut them off when you went in the hospital anyway, wouldn't they?

I'm REALLY hoping to avoid the cutting off if at all possible.
The swelling came on suddenly & since I have never experienced a problem before with wearing them through my 5 pregnancies/births, I saw no point in removing them. I think the swelling is worse because of the clasp digging into my skin.

I've never been told that they would need to be removed during labour, maybe others have?

I broke my finger many years ago and my rings were stuck. The doctor used sutures (fishing line would work) and wrapped around my finger starting at the ring and working towards the tip. It takes a long time as you have to wrap a small piece, move the ring a bit, unwrap and then try again. You can't just wrap the whole thing and slide it off as you cut the circulation of. But f you really want to save your rings this might work for you.
BTW It hurt like a SOB but I am unsure if that was due to the wrapping so tight or the break.

oh good luck M, I had the same problem with my last two, had a LOT of swelling and couldn't wear them. Still can't
but really, if you are already having to get the ring repaired, what's the problem with having them cut it off and repairing that too? Hope you get it off!

If you have sewing thread or fishing line, wrap it around your finger very tightly, it will hurt,, once it's all the way wrapped from fingertip to base, slip the end under your ring and out the other side and slowly unwrap. This is what most Dr's do. I had it done and it works like a charm and you won't need to cut your rings.

I can totally relate to having your rings stuck on your finger. I swelled too when I was pregnant and couldn't get my rings off my fingers by about six months pregnant. When my DS was young I tried everything, all the little tips and tricks that people suggested, and nothing worked. My knuckle would bleed trying to get the darn things off, and I too was TERRIFIED of having my rings cut off. When DS was 9 months old, I was finally able to get off my engagement ring, but I had to have my wedding band cut off at the jeweler. My fingers are just permanently larger after the pregnancy, as are my feet. Let me reassure you, though, that looking at my rings today you would never know I had my wedding band cut off. The jeweler did an amazing job of fixing them and resizing both rings. Seriously, you can't tell at all. Any jeweler should be able to do it for you, but I went to Ben Moss because that's where my rings are from and we had a warranty for free repairs and maintenance.
Good luck with your rings!
Good luck with your rings!

Mine weren't cut off when I had my DS. I had heard they might, but my doctor said I didn't need naked fingers to have a baby.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, unfortunately they are still on.
Dh is convinced that if they are cut they'll be forever weakened and more susceptible to breakage. I think he loves my rings more than I do...
My mom's coming over later to help me with some more spring cleaning & to try the thread thing. Keep your fingers crossed that it works.
