One parent taking child on plane

Postby HotPockets on Mon Feb 02, 2009 9:21 pm

I'm taking my infant daughter to Toronto next week but dad is staying home with our DS. Does anyone know if I need any documentation from her father saying it's OK that I take her. I know you need a notarized letter when only one parent takes a child out of the country.

Thanks for your help!

i've had no problem flying just me with my child but i have only stayed in BC(no letter of consent).. though my annoyance is the whole "ID" for a child, the first time i went the small town airport demanded to see a birth certificate on the flight home (i had it but the people behind us sending thier grandkids home didn't) yet the victoria airport never asked. BC also no longer has a small form birth certificate so taking a full size birth certificate is kinda tricky yet i can't leave it behind and have no ID for her (sorry just my flying frustration)

I've never had a problem flying within Canada alone with my DS. I would imagine you would only need a letter if you're leaving the country.

I hear yah, we went away at Christmas time and like every 10 minutes I was checking my bag and making sure that I didt lose the certificate they are such a pain in the butt lol.

But you only need a letter if you are leaving Canada so you will be fine.

Her Carecard works too :D It has her name and her birthdate on it. We used it instead. I wasn't carrying her BC around with us.

WE flew with all three of our children to T.O. and had to produce ID for one of them because their name appeared on the NO FLY LIST. He was 2 years old at the time.LOL. We did have a passport for him...and a good thing. I suggest you take all the ID you have available. Flying is a privledge not a right....be prepared for anything. Nothing would ruin a holiday more than not having enough ID. Good Luck!

I have taken my daughter without anything but that was 7 years ago to Ontario. My ex when he goes with my two kids always gets me to write up that I give consent... we do not get it noterized though but due to different last names I just put my Name, home address and phone number with yes I consent to them flying from this date and coming back from this place on this date. He has never had any problems but we always cover our butt ahead of time.
