Commit to Get Fit - Assessment Breakdown

Postby LoriB on Fri Jul 24, 2009 4:59 am

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to give you a reminder of how everything works for this evening. So there are examples below of how the calculations will be made. Unfortunately I had to change some trip dates and will not be in Victoria this evening. Sorry, couldn't be helped! However, Arran, Tobin and Nora will be there. So there will still be consistency in how things are done.
Good luck everyone!

Weigh-in information

As everyone knows, the winner of the Commit to Get Fit contest will be determined by a combination of weight loss, decrease in inches, and increase in fitness ability. This will give you the specific information about how it is broken down.

First of all, this is how the individual areas will be calculated:

1. Weight

Weight is simple, you have a starting weight, and an ending weight, and the difference is the weight lost. The percentage is the weight lost divided by the starting weight, times 100. The higher this number, the better you did.

So, two examples:

a) 200 pounds at the start, 180 pounds at the end. The weight lost is 20 pounds, so it's (20/200)*100=10%
b) 180 pounds at the start, 163 pounds at the end. The weight lost is 17 pounds, so it's (17/180)*100=9.44%

2. Inches

The TOTAL inches of all measurements is the starting inches, the TOTAL inches of all measurements at the end is the end number, and the difference is the total inches lost. The percentage is the inches lost divided by the starting inches, times 100. The higher this number, the better you did.

So, two more examples:

a) Starting: bust 41, under bust 40.5, waist 42, hips 44, arm 13, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 180.5
Ending: bust 40, under bust 40, waist 39, hips 43, arm 13, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 175
The difference is 5.5, so it's (5.5/180.5)*100=3.05%

b) Starting: bust 47, under bust 45, waist 49, hips 31, arm 15, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 187
Ending: bust 42, under bust 41, waist 39, hips 31, arm 14, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 167
The difference is 20, so it's (20/187)*100=10.7%

3. Fitness

The TOTAL of all three categories at the start is the starting fitness number, the TOTAL of all three categories at the end is the ending fitness number, and the difference is the total fitness increase. The percentage is the fitness increase divided by the starting fitness number, times 100. The higher this number, the better you did.

So, two more examples:

a) Starting: Situps 30, Pushups 7, Step-ups 55, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 92
Ending: Situps 45, Pushups 15, Step-ups 65, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 125
The difference is 33, so it's (33/92)*100=35%

b) Starting: Situps 25, Pushups 20, Step-ups 40, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 85
Ending: Situps 30, Pushups 25, Step-ups 45, the TOTAL of all these numbers is 100
The difference is 15, so it's (15/85)*100=17.65%

The grand prize winner is determined by adding up all three percentages, and the person with the highest number is the winner. Once that is determined, the secondary winners will be the three people with the highest amount in each of the three categories. These 4 winners must be 4 different people, so if a person has the highest in more than one category, the next person down would be counted as the winner of that category.

Thanks Lori!

Also so there are no surprises we will be watching your fitness side of things. To be consistent with everyone and so you know in advance (I will go over it tonight as well).

For the sit ups or crunches, they have to be done independent (no one sitting or holding peoples feet) the crunches need to be a full attempt at a crunch not just lifting your head up shoulder blades must come off the ground to count :-D

Push ups either on knees or toes. No bums in the air!

If we do see people not using a proper form or people trying to take advantage we will have to call you on it, so please be honest so we do not have to be mean :)

We will be partnering you up with someone when you arrive

No matter who wins and how much you have lost (or gained) I hope you all have really enjoyed the challenge.

I know the best part for me will be when we add the total pounds lost all together, my guess is that we are down a person or two :D

We have at least 3 random draws to give away as well! Thank you so much Trish, brenda N and becca for the tupperware, epicure and mary kay give aways!

Thank you again for taking the time to make this challenge possible. I am looking forward to tonight, but know that I am not in the running for any sort of prize. It has been a great motivator for me.

Ada, we are in the running for the random draws :D

And ladies and men introduce yourselves this time :)

If anyone puts together a September challenge I am on board.

This has been a great motivator for me as well, and though I know I am not in the running for anything except the random draws, I'm pleased with myself.

The last two weeks I've fizzled (so much for staying strong until the end  ) but I've noticed some great changes in my life and DH and I have made some 'lifestyle changes' to be more healthy, so this will continue!

Thanks for all your hard work, Lori, Nora and Arran (and your support crews).

See you tonight! :D
