QUICK...egg noodles o.k. for baby?

Postby ander on Mon Nov 16, 2009 3:40 pm

I've been googling madly but haven't found out....are egg noodles o.k. for babies under 1 yr.? I know they're not supposed to have egg whites but ds has had yolk. Wondering if the concern is still there for noodles and baked goods? TIA!

In baked goods, the egg protein is denatured and is usually safe. For some kids with egg allergies, they can't handle it baked into things, either, but a lot can. Plus, if your son has had egg yolk with no issues, he's probably good to go. Chances are pretty good he's had a tiny bit of egg white in there, too. I think the noodles would be fine as well. If you're concerned, just use regular pasta. You know. The flour but no egg kind.

I'd do it. A PHN once told me that although the advice is no egg whites before 1 year that giving an 8-10 month old babe muffins or other type of baked goods with 1 or 2 eggs in the recipe (spread out then between 24 or so muffins...or 48 + of the mini kind I make) would be fine since the amount of egg white they'd actually get would be very small unless they eat the entire batch of muffins.

You know me...I'd go for it. :)

so did my daughter, i Just made sure they were totally cooked :) But, that being said, I don't really buy into much of that safe/unsafe stuff.
make sure it's clean, make sure it's cooked, and as far as I was concerned (with the more dangerous exceptions obviously) whole foods better than processed, so couldn't go wrong there.

The reason they recommend not feeding babies under 1 year egg white is because the majority of egg allergies are just the whites, not the yolks. It's to cut down on introducing babies to strong allergens too early, like strawberries. It's not a food safe thing (though eggs should be cooked thoroughly, yolk and whites, when fed to children to avoid salmonella poisoning). If you don't have a history of egg allergies in your family, and your child doesn't suffer from other allergies, it should be fine. My daughter just turned one and she's been eating baked goods with whole eggs since about 9 months, and I started giving her whole scrambled eggs at about 10.5 months.

ah yes the 4th baby......I did spend a moment looking into this and it seems that the APP has changed their view on this so egg whites are okay as long as there is not great risk of allergy.

I have a very funny 4th baby story I should facebook you, I dare not post it here but you will have a laugh

Don't worry OM, the "rules" don't apply to 4th babies. If you remember to feed him that's all that matters :D

 What about second babies? :D
