I had been smoking my whole life literally....
at 5 I use to take a drag or 2 of my dads cigs and say "when I grow up I am going to be just like you"
by age 11 I was buying my own smokes in hiding...
by age 16 to 24 about I was smoking about 2 packs a day.
I then cut down to 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack.

I tried the patch at different doses and it just gave my skin a rash so I could not use it.
Nicorette gum. I tried a few flavors and all I ended up doing was spitting the whole time, and did nothing for me.
I tried to get hypnotize.- Fail.
I tried cold turkey. Fail.

Then before I was going into have my operation ( I knew 1 month in advance) I talked to each of my cig. every time I lite one up. I would say I hated him and he was gross and I was going to leave him etc. etc... I did this for 1 month. also stating the date Nov. 6. "by Nov. 6 your out of here....."

I have been smoke free for 3 yrs :D I only got bad cravings when I got home. I had to break the habits I did with smoking.
Also while in the hospital I had someone clean, refresh the house and wash all the clothes.

To replace smoking I made and ate lots of carrot and celery sticks. keep my fingers busy.

Best stop smoking product for me my own self talk :-D

When I quit almost 9 years ago, I posted this on my fridge and looked at it several times a day. It gave me something tangible to see/know what was happening to my body. I also made sure I rewarded myself for my success. I used the patch for about 3 days as well and then just didn't need it anymore.
Good luck, quitting is touch but it can be done and well worth it.

I'm smoke-free for eight years now. :-D

When I quit (that time - the last time), I was really determined and knew I was quitting forever and would never smoke again. The only thing I used was the nicorette gum for about a week, just to get over the physical cravings. The mental part was a good three-month difficult struggle - and then it became easier.
I have opinions of my own - strong opinions - but I don't always agree with them - George Bush

When you're ready to quit I suggest not telling anyone that you're quitting. It makes it your choice/decision and you're empowered/held accountable by that knowledge. You need to quit for yourself and your own reasons for it to be successful. Good luck! :)
