Totally second this.. amazing movie!! I'm so glad i went to see it in the theatre :D

I went to the 10:30 show, and was very surprised at the amount of kids in the 4-9 age range that were coming out of it. It's a pretty long movie (almost 3 hours), and doesn't seem very kid like to me... but it's each parents decision, I guess!

  I know eh?!! It is amazing when one goes to a "grownup movie" only to find the theater filled with children.

Now I will probably get a good flaming for posting this but here goes:

What ticks me off even more is when you go to see a "grownup movie" and the mother/father has their baby with. (hmm sleep through the movie? YA RIGHT!)
Just a hint, when the poor baby starts crying (ya I am sure it is your baby and you are "used to it's cry", well the whole theater isn't used to it) and when the people sitting around you start looking at you, that is usually your cue to exit!

I did my time with babies/toddlers, I had respect for other movie goers, mine were with a sitter or I simply didn't go out.

I didn't look forward to my movie all week long, go out for a nice meal (WITHOUT MY KIDS) only to have the evening ruined by someones poor wee babe crying bloody murder.....

OK, sorry OP to go nuts on your rant.

So, would you say it is not appropriate for around 10 year olds? My ds wants to see it for his birthday, and I just don't know. Thanks! And sorry for the mini hijack!

From the previews on T.V. I figured it was geared more to adults. My one question is why do they have these as toys @ Mcdonalds then?? :-k

To Avatar or Sherlock Holmes? If Sherlock, I wouldn't mind hearing how it was for him.

My husband and I were planning to go see Avatar tomorrow with our 7 year old dd. What, exactly, is it about the film that you'd object to a kid seeing?

Our dd is a huge fan of X-Men, Harry Potter, Jurrasic Park etc. She isn't squeamish and seems to really understand that it is "just a movie" and is not any different than a book. When my inlaws called from Belgium a few days ago, their main focus was making sure we knew how crucial it was to take Abbey to this movie; they said seh would LOVE it, as we all would.

So.... Is there anything in this film that I should be warned about as a parent? I read the stuff online about it and have a good sense of the plot. Is it just that kids in the theatre bug you or is it something in the film itself that you consider damaging?

Thanks.

So we are back from the movies and my 10 y/o LOVED it. (Avatar). She sat through the entire movie and didn't make a peep and she has ADHD so that's saying a lot. She gives it a definite two thumbs up. I really think it depends on the child. My 8 y/o would be bored stiff so I wouldn't even think of taking him but I don't think you can judge why some people take their kids to certain movies even though you wouldn't. FWIW, I took my 8 y/o and 4 y/o to Alvin and the Chipmunks while dh and dd were at AVATAR and they were very happy with that. It was a cute movie although the chipmunk voices grate on my nerves after after 3 minutes.

I didn't see it so I'm getting this from dh but there is a lot, I mean A LOT of crude swearing (the main characters are marines afterall). There is also a love scene between two aliens but nothing graphic. And of course there is a lot of violence.

Well it's certainly not a movie I would take my almost 7 year old to..but then again she only watches G rate movies....not even PG movies. There is a fair bit of swearing and objectionable language, LOTS of violence and scary scenes. There were a few minor "sex' scenes but those are of no concern to me. I would say it's okay for some kids 10 and older, it would depend on the child.

This. When I saw New Moon there was a toddler there yabbering/whining away.
You know being a normal 1-2 year old toddler. The kid was not doing anything wrong at all but leave the kid at home.

We really limit the movies our daughter sees with violence and swearing. Our thinking is that if we don't want her thinking it's okay to swear we shouldn't take her to movies with swearing. Of course, right now she is 5, but even as she gets older. She has decades of watching violence on the news and worldwide media, there are other ways for her to be entertained then watching beings kill each other in the movies.
