Wondering about Full Day Kindergarten and Strong Start Prog?

Postby Angels 6 on Tue Feb 02, 2010 8:24 pm

I'm wondering, with the full day Kindergarten starting in Sept at most schools, what will happen to the Strong Start programs? I'm thinking they'll need the rooms? Any one know?

Strong Start is a Ministry (almost wrote misery) of Education intiative. I don't see them going anywhere unless they had very low attendees!

Our school will have full day and is keeping strong start. I find the majority of the kids ages ranges from nb to 3 ish. I very rarely see a 4-5 year old.

Ours is over crowded most days too and havent been going due to this.

I was talking to Donna-Lynn, the ECE at the Tillicum Elementary StrongStart about this this morning. In Tillicum's case, the SS classroom will be taken over by a full day kindie class, and she will move to share space with the before and after school care program, since their hours don't overlap.

It won't be ideal, as the two groups are focussed on different ages / stages of kids, but it will have to do, I suppose! Tillicum El. is bursting at the seams, but it will be good for the neighbourhood to have full day kindie, I think.

Wow, they always have that huge empty classroom beside the washroom everytime I have gone there. I thought they had lots of space due to declining enrollment.

I am shocked that she will have to move.

You can just drop in & then register when you get there, sorry, not sure if you have to register at each individual place or if it includes all.
