Back Pain or Kidney Problems?

Postby mazey on Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:11 pm

I woke up last night with back pain and I just felt kinda sick to my stomach..(could be me worrying though)..and all day today I have had this dull pain in my lower back and not sure if I just slept wierd or pulled a muscle or if I have the start of some kidney problem
I have never had kidney trouble and never really had this kind of back pain
Anyone experience something like this?

Are you feeling nauseous at all? Does the pain radiate to where the kidneys are, or does it stay in one place? Is it sharp, or just stays dull? Are you needing to urinate frequently? Is it relieved with oral analgesics and/or heat but then returns?
When I had renal colic a couple of years ago, it started with a dull ache that I thought was the beginning of my period, but then the aforementioned things started happening as well. After sticking it out for 10 hours, I finally took myself off to the ER and turns out I had stones. Pain was relieved with a narcotic analgesic after the toradol was ineffective, and I was on flomax for a week which helped the stones pass uneventfully.
That was just my experience though.
If it persists, I would get it checked out. And I hope you feel better soon.

I don't have any of those symtoms, but I hope I don't get them.........
It is just a wierd kinda pain.........it's there, but it isn't sharp just annoying and it kinda worries me...I guess if It gets worse, then I will go to a clinic tomorrow........Why does everything always seem worse in the middle of night? ;(

I have cronic kidney stones and they start with a dull ache in the kidney area that becomes almost unbearble and one day it moves - holy mother of God you know when it does and then it is gone for a while. (It comes out I mean) The ache is a dull ache that is worse when I am dehydrated and lying down. Not sure if that helps at all. Hope it is not a kidneystone - they are not much fun to pass, really.
