Selling a Big Ticket Item via Craigslist

Postby secretgarden on Thu Apr 01, 2010 4:12 pm

I am meeting someone that has responded to my ad via Craigslist tomorrow. It's a rather big ticket item (my engagement ring from my ex).

I know about the taking a bank draft or cash precaution, and we are planning on meeting somewhere public and I won't be alone. What other recommendations do you have?

I would arrange to meet them at your bank so you can deposit the bank draft right in front of them at the teller. that's what the woman who sold me her car did & I thought it was pretty smart :)

I sold a trailer for $3000 last year on usedvictoria.com and we met at HIS bank, and I went in and cashed the check at his branch. They bank offered me cash or a guaranteed bank draft.

With it being Good Friday the bank is not an option. I have had some great communication with the woman and I'm feeling really comfortable with the meeting. We're also meeting at a Starbucks so it's very public. My bf will probably be with me too. It's a $5000 ring so I definitely need to take my precautions :) crossing my fingers that she likes it and I'll be a very happ camper.

Thanks all!
