miscarriage nightmares
Hey gals - I'm thinking this is normal but....I had a miscarriage in Sept of last year at 6 weeks. I am now 11.5 weeks pregnant and thrilled but so cautious about everything. The doctor heard the heartbeat three weeks ago loud and clear but I'm still freaked. We have our first ultrasound next week and I'm scared of course that all will be wrong. I even had a nightmare last night that I miscarried just before the ultrasound. I even got up to check for blood when I woke up at 5am. I'm fairly relaxed despite all of this but has anyone else had this kind of thing?

Re: miscarriage nightmares
During the first few months.....who am I kidding my entire pregnancy I have been concerned about miscarriage. It took hubby and I so long to become pregnant that I have worried something will go wrong.
While I have not had dreams of losing our baby, I do get worried if something does not feel right. In the beginning, I was very crampy, this caused me concern. In the second trimester I barely ate, everything I read said I should have increased appetite. Now if the baby does not move much I get worried. Some days it is like a circus in my belly, you can see it move and it is non-stop, other days (like two days ago) it takes over an hour to count 10 movements, normally it is less than 30 minutes.
What I have done to help reduce my concerns is talk with DH, he is a wonderful support, and talk to my dr.
It has helped discussing my concerns with my Dr, because she can tell me when to be worried and when not to. It is hard to not be concerned especially when you don't even get a "break" from the worries while you are asleep. It is also good to share your worries with those who have experienced what you have.
I think that is normal, our brains process things in strange ways. I have found talking to people about my concerns helps to keep them out of my dreams.
Hope this helps.

Re: miscarriage nightmares
Hi WestCoast Momma,
I think what you are going through is perfectly normal. Weird pregnancy dreams combined with a previous miscarriage and pregnancy hormones is a nasty combination. I am in very similar boat. I am now 7 weeks along after two previous miscarriages... the last one in September, as well. I have a beautiful daughter who is now 3.5, and I try to remember that whatever happens that I am blessed. I so want to be hopeful and not worried and anxious, and sometimes I cope ok, while sometimes (ok alot of the time) not so much. I just keep trying to remind myself to take it one day at a time. I have had miscarriage dreams this time around, too. I also remember an incredibly vivid dream with my daughter when we took her out to play with her for a while, but then decided she wasn't ready yet and put her back in... yep weird pregnancy dreams. If you want to chat more and share your progress, we have started an Oct/Nov Due date club and we would love if you would join us there.... I am thinking that 11.5 weeks would put you in Oct.
Take care, Momma and try to take it easy.
Kim

Re: miscarriage nightmares
After my first pregnancy miscarriage at 11 weeks (no heartbeat though and the fetus didn't grow past 8 weeks), I was PARANOID. With it I didn't have any obvious signs either so that made it worse (just no heartbeat).
I remember crying like crazy at the 14 week appt when we heard a heartbeat with DD.
I think it is so normal to be worried. I was lucky to have a midwife schedule me an ultrasound at 8 weeks and that helped a lot.
Congratulations.

Very normal feelings you are going through - We had two miscarriages before our daughter was born, and one before my son was born. What helped me a lot was to have a fetal doppler at home. Every few days. or once per week, I would simply plug it in, have a listen to that wonderful little heartbeat and be reassured for another week or so

Re: miscarriage nightmares
I'm sorry about your loss. I had nightmares like that all the way through my pregnancy with dd2.Miscarriages are so awful they take away your innocence about pregnancy

I just had to keep telling myself that I had a higher chance of bringing home a healthy baby than I had of a miscarriage.
Just keep remembering that

I also second the advice about getting a doppler. They are only around 100 dollars and can be sold for the same amount easily. I really loved mine

Re: miscarriage nightmares
Hey gals - thanks so much for all your support and agreement. I feel better I'm not the only one with rampant feelings like this. I have finally made it to our ultrasound which is tomorrow so just one more night then I can rest easy assuming all is well. I feel very pregnant which I didn't when I miscarried so that's good I guess. With my daughter I felt very pregnant all the way through too. Weird how the body works. I have heard before too that a m/c takes away the innocence of pregnancy and I couldn't agree more. Must move on though. Our daughter is a true blessing and so wonderful that another would be icing on the cake! Till tomorrow.
