My dog is in her kennel from 7am to 4pm everyday while we work. She has her food, a stuffy and her blanket. She puts herself in the kennel at about 10 minutes to.

My dogs and cats spend very little time alone really. I am a stay at home mom and I typically go out for a few hours a day but depending on where I am going they might come with me. My older cat doesn't care if anyone is here as long as she has food, clean water and clean litter. My Siamese on the other hand is part dog I swear. hehe

If I go out all day I will sometimes drop off my Dog at my Parents... if it was more than 6 hours or ask them to check in on her.
I am at home the rest of the time... so usually it is 2 to 3 hours she is left alone. If my parents are babysitting my kids the dog goes as well.

Mine goes to my inlaws on days I have to work. Otherwise she's crated if we're out for short periods (up to 3 hrs). I'd be more willing to let her "loose" in the house, but she gets too excited still when she sees a handful of people and "piddles" slightly so I want her in the kitchen when she greets us.

Not much... when I drop and pick up my kids from school... do grocery shopping etc... If I am gone all day which isn't often there's a whole gang of them and they have each other

Not much as my DH has an office in the house. More so on the weekends if we are out as a family (sans dog) and then we crate her in the kitchen. No breeder we spoke to when we were looking for our dog would sell to someone who was out of the house all day every day.

With that being said, I wish we could gate the puppy in the kitchen when we go out other than her crate...but..well..she bulldozes threw them. I cant even imagine what my house would look like if she got loose!!!!!

We leave the house around 745 am and one of us is usually home around 530pm. They are baby gated into the kitchen (thank god we finally found a baby gate that would hold them!!) We do have to make sure there is nothing around for them to chew on because Molly (aka the re-tard, like on the Hangover, I know, not PC) will chew it. In fact we learned this by having to go this weekend to buy a new MICROWAVE!!! due to the fact that she ate through the PLUGGED IN cord. Somehow, she is still alive to tell the story.
