Yes, it is cheaper to make. I've made it before (the one with the chocolate syrup). I've also made my own Kahlua (yum) and Grand Marnier. It is cheaper because you can use cheaper booze to go into it, and you are making a large batch.

My sister used Splenda instead of sugar in her recipe and it tasted amazing :)

I found the recipe in an old post here:

Homemade Irish Cream is really easy:

1 3/4 c. Irish Whiskey
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 c. whipping cream
4 eggs
2 tbsp. chocolate flavored syrup
2 tsp. instant coffee
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract
In blender combine all ingredients until smooth. Store in a container in refrigerator.

I would love to find a Tia Maria recipe. My mom used to make it when I was a kid. All I can remember is it uses the coffee syrup (not even sure if they make it anymore) because what she didn't need we would mix in milk.

Kahlua (Tia Maria) Recipe:

1/2 cup instant coffe (NOT decaf)
1.5 cups white sugar
2 cups water
2 tbsp vanilla extract
750ml (26 ounce) bottle of any vodka (cheap is fine)

Mix coffe, sugar, water and vanilla in a saucepan. Simmer (stirring) to dissolve sugar. Let simmer 10 minutes, then remove from heat. You should have about 3 cups of the coffee mixture at this point. If it measures short, top it off with a bit of water. Add in the entire bottle of vodka. Store in clean bottles. The mixture can be drank immediately, but it gets better with age. Store for a month first (if you can wait that long)!

No refridgeration is required and it stores for months (not that I've ever personally been able to keep it that long, lol). I've made this several times and given it as gifts to people too.

Thanks for the recipe :D

If you use a 26, how many bottles do you need once you have made it, besides the now empty 26?

It's been a few years, but I think at least 2 bottles (if using 26oz size). I usually put them into the smaller bottles, and honestly I think it is 4 or 5 of the smaller ones.
