Where do you book your flights, and flying help needed!:)

Postby girlie on Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:31 am

I just went on a 5 day cruise to LA last week; and it was soooo rocky from 28 hour storm from 7-12 foot waves, that I wanted to jump ship..lol...my family was very sea sick for 28 hours!! This was our 3rd cruise and though weather is not always planned, we enjoyed the flight home much better...we picked flying a better time over cruising last week to my surprise!!
So since we are *new* at flying, only flew a few times in past year.....Where do we go to book more FLYING vacations? I would love to go back to California next year, or a trip under 5 hours of FLYING ONLY to start.

My flying questions:
*Where do YOU book flights in Victoria?
*What airplane company is best?--( We went with Air Canada and we were happy...open to more ideas!)
*Where do you fly to for your family vacations from Vic or Van?
*How do I enroll for airmiles?
*Online flight shopping/ browsing sites? Which ones? travel company links??
*What's your experience on small planes and jumbo jets?--(We were on jumbo for 2.5 hours than 13 mins on small plane and the small one was more bumpy and engine loud; I don't think I would like that feeling for too long).....so, When booking flights,...How do you find out what SIZE of PLANE you are booking?--( think Jumbo would be best for us!)
*Do you wait till weather is good (calm, not Winter) to book your flight/holiday to avoid higher chance of WILD weather storm turbulence, or just book flights anytime of year?

Your personal flying Vacation stories, Flight company links, and any flying related info would be appreciated!
Thanks for the help...learning to fly:) ;-)
Girlie.

I travel quite frequently, and have a tighter budget, so the way I travel might not be suited to your needs. But here are 'my' answers to some of your questions...

I always book my travel online, from either cheapoair.com or cheapticketscanada.com. Excellent prices, all year round.

When I travel, I always fly out of Victoria and connect (usually) in seattle for a further destination.
My favourite places to go from here:
Mexico, Las Vegas, Hawaii
I usually rent a car and travel on a road trip after flying to my destination

This past spring I visited Morocco and the flight was very comfortable, with a movie screen on the back of each seat and a huge selection of movies, games and music. Can't recall the company, but I know it wasn't a jumbo. It was big though.

I have no flying issues, enjoy the rush whether it's a small plane or big one, but for long flights I would definitely rather be in a larger plane.

I travel at all times of the year, depending on the deals and where I'd like to go. My only complaint is that in the spring, there tends to be a lot of fog and when flying from Seattle to Victoria as a connector, it's possible to have a flight delayed or cancelled. That is REALLY annoying. Only happened once, but it's something I'll always consider in the future.

Tips for flying: try to sleep if you can! Bring lots of food, always. Even if they have a meal, it's often pretty icky and I find I like to munch more often than they hand out stuff. Also, lots of water. The air is really dry and I'm always sipping. You have to buy these after going through customs though.
Also bring some fun things to do or listen to. In case you don't feel like watching the movie, or would rather read, always have a variety of stuff on hand.
If you get queasy, and you can get away with it, take a gravol before your flight, it'll help you sleep and you won't be so uncomfortable.
Oh yes, I'd highly recommend a travel pillow! They are soooo great for dozing off, and not ending up with your face on your neighbour's shoulder! :)

Have fun!!!!!

My husband fly's every 2 weeks with Westjet, and has for the last years. We have ALWAYS had excellent service. The few times he flew with Air Canada, we had problems if we needed to cancel the flight or change the times/dates.

Westjet vacations has some great deals too. :-D

We're doing Disney land this school year and are flying out of Vancouver. We looked at flying with alligent (sp?) airlines but with 3 kids it's a lot easier to fly from Vancouver!

HTH :-D
