Poll Birthday invites days notice?

Postby TazDevil on Mon Apr 02, 2012 5:41 pm

So I was wondering what other parents thought was proper notice for a birthday party? I always have booked the party months in advance and given 2 weeks notice. However for the past 10 invites my kids have received from classmates they all were only 1 to max 4 days notice.

It is sad for them because we schedule our weekend activities a week ahead of time and often they are busy with planned things.

Just wondering what others thought?

Wow, 1-4 days notice? I wouldn't expect many kids to make those parties. I go for 2 weeks notice for my kids parties, I want to make sure as many of their invited friends as possible can make it.

We gave about 2 weeks notice for my boys birthday. They have been invited to 3 birthdays this year and got between 7 and 10 days notice for each.

I think a couple of weeks is ideal but we don't have a minimum. If we get short notice we try to accommodate if possible.

I work shift work and appreciate as much notice as possible. Even then I can't always re-arrange my work schedule so that we can go though.

I fall into that 1-4 days notice!
Rarely 1, more likely 2- 4.

My reasoning -
1. I'm not generally ALL that organized far in advance.
2 - the more notice you give people the more chance they will forget!
3. - I THRIVE on procrastination and staying up til 1am decorating cakes and making alien stuffies for goodie bags.

ahem.

I just had 13 kids to my sons birthday this past weekend, I sent out the invites with him to school on Thursday for his Saturday birthday. Every single kid that was invited came. BUT I always call the parents the night before to let them know about the party so they can check the book bags and so I can get an idea of who is coming. Plus it also takes out the stress of - are they coming or not?!

I also know and am friends with almost all of my sons friends parents and generally know they got nothin' goin' on! ;)

Personally, I like to give 2 wks or more, but I'm okay with the 1-2 wk range. I've never thought ill of receiving any shorter notice ones though, as I have always assumed that they were either:

a) Not very prepared and therefore not to be faulted since at least they were trying to put something together for their child  OR,

b) We were a last minute invite due to afterthought or some other invites not being able to attend, which we don't take offense to, as we're just happy to be invited and for us parents to have a couple hours without a child :D

We give 2 weeks + notice for birthday invites because I like to be organized with how many kids, how much food, how many goodie bags and how much money to set aside. Our child in the last month has come home with an invite for 2 separate party's 2 days before the party.. :-k makes it a bit difficult to accomadate & shop for.
