private car insurance warning - HELP

Postby luvmygirls on Sun Nov 13, 2005 12:23 pm

We have private car insurance (until Monday when we will be cancelling and going back to ICBC). Our van was the victim of a hit and run last night. According to our private insurane company, they do not cover hit and runs unless you buy an additional "hit and run" policy. As a result, we have to pay a $750.00 deductable for ICBC to fix the van. I cannot believe that our broker would not have told us this!!!!! Not happy!!!!!! If you have private insurance, phone them asap and find out if they cover hit and runs (get it in writing) so you don't get burned like we did.

NEW INFO

Have you seen a small chevy/GMC (S-10/S-15) pick-up truck missing a driver's side headlight and grill with damage to the driver's side fender? Our van was the victim of a hit and run Saturday night/Sunday morning around 1:15am +/-. The vehicle that hit it left behind a headlight and grill piece belonging to one of these trucks and the neighbours saw a truck fleeing the seen. We are on Stockton Cres near McKenzie and Shelbourne. There is major damage to the van and we have to pay a $750 deductable, unless the person who did this gets caught or comes clean. If you see a truck matching this description, please call the Saanich Police re file #05-29053 or ICBC re claim #M3022673. If you know who this person is and you do not want to get them in trouble, encourage them to get ahold of us and arrange to pay for the damages and we will not press charges. We cannot afford this heavy hit right before Christmas and we are appealing to this person to do the right thing. You can also call us at 385-4673 (Gord or Connie) if you know anything about this.

It looks like there is only one company that does this (charges extra for hit and run). As I am only stating a fact, it should be ok to post their name "Family Insurance Solution". If you are using this company, make sure you get the hit and run policy.
