cleaning for dog and cat allergies

Postby diaperdiva on Tue Apr 25, 2006 9:36 pm

We are moving into a new place next week and the people there now have a dog and a couple of cats. DH and DS are highly allergic. Is there a way to get rid of the dander? I am planning to vaccuum and wipe down everything with some water and maybe some vinegar. Are there any others on KIV who have had experience with this and have a better way to clean dog and cat hair? Please help as this will cause quite a bit of discomfort and health issues if we can't address this. The house is the only one we could find with the time and price constraints we faced so not moving in is not a viable option. TIA.

I would rent a carpet cleaner (most big grocery store chains carry them). Maybe rent it for a couple of days and just clean them over and over again. Just be sure that they dry well because the last thing you want is for the carpets to mold and release either allergens or deadly spores.

Good luck moving and enjoy your new place!!!

Hi diaperdiva,

With pet allergies...( allergie of any kind)..sometimes people find the store machines are not always that clean...especially aroung the edges and can leave residue from cleaning machines that make a difference. A good steam cleaning is best..."Vinegar is good for pet smells and will cover it up and break down the crystals...that dried urine can cause.(sorry that was disgusting).
**If you like...and can afford it you can email direct and I can give you the name of a place I used to work for.(As do not wish to say as we are on KIV).
All natural products are used and there is a treatment to specifically help the problem you mention.
That must be really hard on for them both a...and you too of course!
Either way I hope whatever route you go works well enough.

Good Luck and Take Care :)

**BTW...If you call them and mention my name ..perhaps they will give you a better price! :)

Thanks,hr
