Deal for BC teachers concluded
An agreement-in-committee was concluded with the employer at 9:45 p.m. today. The EC is recommending this deal to members. Members will vote on ratification of the agreement in the fall. Key elements of the agreement include a five-year term, a total compensation package of 16%, a signing bonus of $4,000, and numerous other improvements for teachers.
"Congratulations to members for their commitment, unity, and tremendous support for their bargaining team," says Jinny Sims, BCTF president. "Together, we have achieved significant gains for our profession."

An agreement has been reached with a five year deal. Teachers will vote in September (not earlier as many are on pre-planned vacation time) and the negotiating team is advising teachers to sign the deal. Most of the teachers that I have talked to will be very happy to sign the deal so that there is no strike / or job action for another five years at least. A signing bonus will be paid out after the deal has been signed. The bonus will then be taxed and union dues removed and most teachers will end up with approximately $2200-$2500 as a bonus. Sounds like a good deal. I hope it passes!
